skate life beyond borders

Skateboarding is a trip. Sometimes quite literally. I’ve had the opportunity to visit many countries over the years & have made some lifelong friends along the way. One thing I’ve learned for certain, skateboarding can transcend beyond language barriers & the skate culture/lifestyle is truly universal.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in Costa Rica lately. Some people call it paradise, with it’s incredible landscapes, amazing local cuisine & the super laid back vibes in general. Skateboarding is definitely thriving there as well & the locals are absolutely killing it. Thanks to social media, Gnar Yard has connected with lots of new friends & great skateboarders across the entire country. Most notably the homie, Nickol Jimenez.

Mr. Jimenez is a life long skater with a heavy passion for it all. He has that familiar aura of someone who lives & breathes skating. Professionally Nickol is an educator/mentor to many people & has managed to incorporate his love for skateboarding into his work & personal life. As a skate instructor for the youth, Nickol is also involved in many aspects within the National skate scene & Championships. We had the pleasure of visiting him & his wonderful family at their home in the picturesque hills of Costa Rica, where Nickol has built his own personal concrete ramp. What a dream!

We shared many great conversations & it’s apparent that Nickol is determined to spread the gospel & will continue to help the skateboard community grow locally & nationally throughout his beloved country. I am personally grateful to know such a great guy & look forward to working with him on future projects & events. Cheers, brother.🤙
